Supporting one of Scotland’s largest veteran charities by ensuring they receive the value they deserve, in recognition of the service they’ve given us.
Overview
Client Background
Erskine Veterans Charity is Scotland’s leading veterans care and support organisation. Established in 1916 as the Princess Louise Scottish Hospital for Limbless Sailors and Soldiers, the charity has continually evolved to meet the needs of ex-service personnel.
Today, from its headquarters in Renfrewshire, Erskine operates Care, Accommodation and Community support services for Veterans across the country. Its Veterans Village in Bishopton further extends support with 44 cottages, assisted-living apartments, transitional housing and community facilities designed to help younger veterans and those adjusting to civilian life.
Guided by its core values—CARE: Communication, Accountability, Respect, Empowerment—Erskine is more than a care provider; it is a thriving community where veterans and their families are supported to live fulfilling lives.
Over time, Erskine’s IT and telecoms setup had evolved and grow in response to an increasing complexity of demands and operating environment, as is common with large organisations. Multiple legacy contracts were in place, some no longer required, and supplier costs were growing. Erskine needed a complete review to streamline services, identify savings and ensure every pound raised was being spent effectively.
The Solution
We carried out a detailed audit of Erskine’s IT and telecoms estate, identifying immediate savings and longer-term opportunities for efficiency. Many of these insights are highly relevant across the third sector:
Microsoft 365 – Secured charity-specific discounts and credits across Microsoft services (including Azure and M365 licensing), ensuring Erskine accessed the full benefits available to non-profits.
Business Mobiles – Introduced a zero-usage policy to highlight unused devices, ensuring mobiles were only allocated to staff with the greatest needs.
Infrastructure Costs – Identified extreme and predatory supplier price increases (up to 1200% in one case) and guided Erskine in migrating to more sustainable, cost-effective alternatives.
Legacy Telephony – Prepared for the PSTN switch-off by reviewing old lines (lifts, alarms, fax, and phone systems) to avoid disruption and ensure compliance.
The Result
Our partnership delivered measurable benefits for Erskine Veterans Charity:
Significant cost savings through contract rationalisation and supplier negotiations.
100% alignment with charity pricing, maximising every available discount.
A modernised, cloud-first infrastructure, reducing risk and improving service delivery.
This review has been transformative. Not only did we uncover significant savings, but we now have full visibility over our IT and telecoms estate. The team’s expertise in the charity sector meant we could confidently streamline services without disrupting our operations. Every pound we’ve saved is now going directly to supporting the people who need us most.
